Employee Assistance Program

Purpose...
The purpose of a confidential employee assistance program is twofold: to help employees and their families who are hurting as the result of alcohol and/or drug abuse or stress-related problems resulting from work, family, finances, sickness, loss of family members, retirement, blended families; and to help the employer with productivity, profit and maintaining employee longevity.

Consultation...
Consultation involves development of an employee assistance program policy and brochure and step-by-step program implementation.

Training...
A series of educational workshops for supervisory personnel and shop stewards regarding the program policy, how the program works, the role of the supervisor, how alcoholism, drug addiction and emotional pressures affect a person and his / her family, the progression of the disease and how supervisors and stewards can intervene effectively.

Evaluation...
Within 48 hours of referral, an evaluation of the problem and a referral into the appropriate treatment program occurs.

Referral...

Self Referral... Self identification of the problem, voluntary, confidential contact with an E.A. P. coordinator.

Supervisory Referral... Documented job performance problems results in supervisory referral. Sessions are confidential and voluntary.

Signs of deteriorating job performance:
  • Loss of quality job performance
  • Poor attendance/ increased absenteeism
  • Attitude and physical appearance deterioration
  • Aberrant behavior
  • Increase in number of accidents


Confidentiality...
Employee Assistance Program clients are protected by the federal regulations on confidentiality and at no time is any information disclosed without prior written permission.
